Education & Disability Advocacy Services

What educational advocacy involves.

Educational advocacy is about ensuring your child can access education on the same basis as their peers. For many families, this means understanding complex systems, unfamiliar terminology and policies that are difficult to interpret without support.

Advocacy may include:

  • Explaining school processes and documentation

  • Supporting communication between families and schools

  • Advocating for appropriate adjustments and supports

  • Preparing parents for meetings and decision-making

  • Supporting escalation when issues are not resolved

  • Translate goals from other key stakeholders, such as the child’s therapists, into an educational context

Advocacy does not mean conflict. In many cases, it means helping everyone work together more effectively.

Our advocacy services.

  • We support families to advocate for adjustments that reflect their child’s real needs, academically, socially and emotionally.

  • We help parents prepare for meetings by clarifying the purpose, identifying priorities, and translating reports into school-relevant language.

  • We can attend meetings as a support person, helping keep discussions focused, respectful and child-centred.

  • When progress stalls, we help parents understand their options and what steps may be appropriate.

Our approach.

SupportEd Advocacy works collaboratively with schools wherever possible. Our approach is informed by professional teaching experience, policy knowledge and lived experience as a parent.

Please note that SupportEd Advocacy operates out of the Hunter Valley/Newcastle Region, however we offer online consultation across NSW.
